After a hiatus of approximately four months, Suketar Airport in Taplejung has resumed regular flight operations starting today. The airport had halted flights since the end of Mangsir due to issues with two aircraft operated by Nepal Airlines Corporation. The flight schedule determined on Friday was postponed for today due to technical problems. A plane carrying five passengers departed from Kathmandu and brought back four men and two women from Taplejung to Kathmandu.
The long pause in aviation services at the airport had left both domestic and international travelers, as well as the general public, without access to air travel. Several years ago, Seeta Air and Tara Air had been operating flights in the tourism sector from this airport. However, they have since ceased their services.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated that the resumption of flights at Suketar Airport is a positive development for the region. He emphasized the importance of reliable air travel services in enhancing connectivity and promoting tourism in Taplejung and surrounding areas. Khatri also highlighted the need for consistent maintenance and operational efficiency to prevent future disruptions in flight services.
