Kathmandu – On Thursday, Foreign Minister Dr. Raju Rana Deuba of Nepal and Japan’s Foreign Minister Ewaya Takase held bilateral talks in Tokyo. During their meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo, discussions encompassed various aspects of Nepal-Japan bilateral relations, mutual interests, and shared concerns. Secretary of Foreign Minister Rana’s office confirmed the dialogue between the two ministers.
In the course of the meeting, Minister Rana expressed gratitude on behalf of Nepal to the Japanese government and its citizens for the longstanding support in various sectors, including economic and social realms. The discussion also delved into the 70-year history of Nepal-Japan relations, which were established in 1956. Both countries are gearing up to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in the upcoming years.
Minister Rana extended an invitation to Japanese Foreign Minister Takase to visit Nepal. He highlighted the deep-rooted cultural ties between Nepal and Japan, tracing back to the teachings of Lord Gautam Buddha that have inspired ancient social and cultural connections between the two nations. Minister Rana emphasized that Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal, serves as a cultural bridge between the two countries.
Minister Rana mentioned the influx of Japanese tourists visiting Nepal for the study and exploration of its natural and cultural heritage in Lumbini. He also discussed the potential collaboration between Nepal and Japan in the tourism sector in the days to come.
Furthermore, Minister Rana expressed appreciation for the active and innovative participation of the Japanese government, led by the Deputy Foreign Minister, in the recent Sagarmatha Dialogue organized by Nepal. This collaborative initiative was acknowledged as a significant step towards fostering dynamic and creative engagement between the two nations.
