The Foreign Minister of Nepal, Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, recently held discussions in New Delhi with Ricky Gill, the Senior Director for National Security Council for South and Central Asia under US President Donald Trump’s administration. The meeting took place during the ‘Raisina Dialogue,’ an event organized by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

During the meeting, various aspects of Nepal-US relations were discussed, with the Minister’s office informing that Dr. Rana advocated for the release of Nepali student Vipin Joshi, who is currently under Hamas captivity. Dr. Rana emphasized on the need for cooperation from the US government in securing Joshi’s release.

Vipin, a Nepali student studying in Israel, was abducted by Hamas from Israeli territory in October 2023. The Nepali government has been actively pursuing diplomatic efforts for his release. During the meeting with global leaders and counterparts, Dr. Rana made a plea for support towards securing Vipin Joshi’s release.

In the course of the discussions, Senior Security Director Ricky assured that the economic assistance provided by the US to Nepal would ensure continuity and stability, as communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As a representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri views this news as a significant development in diplomatic efforts to secure the release of Nepali student Vipin Joshi. The interaction between the Foreign Minister of Nepal and the US Senior Director for National Security Council highlights the ongoing collaboration and support between the two nations in addressing critical international issues.
