Kathmandu – Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited has formed a facilitation committee to make medicines produced at affordable prices by the company available in government health institutions. This initiative comes after complaints of medicines like Sitamol and Lifebuoy not being readily available for sale.
Health and Population Minister Pradeep Paudel has taken necessary steps in accordance with government regulations to facilitate the sale of these medicines in all three levels of government health institutions. Meetings have been held with officials from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, as well as representatives from Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited to discuss the facilitation process.
The committee consists of officials from the Health and Population Ministry, Finance Ministry, Federal Affairs and General Administration Ministry, as well as representatives from Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited. They will work based on the recommendations of the committee to make essential decisions for the advancement of this initiative.
During discussions, Minister Paudel emphasized the importance of continuous production by Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited to ensure medicines are available at affordable prices for the general public. He highlighted the need for 98 essential types of medicines to be purchased from industries to make them mandatory and readily available in government health institutions.
In response to the ongoing discussions, Dr. Vikas Devkota from the Health and Population Ministry, Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Yagya Prasad Nyupane, Chairman of Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited, and General Manager Kailash Kumar Paneru were actively involved in the dialogue.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on this development, stating that the formation of the facilitation committee is a positive step towards ensuring affordable and accessible medicines for the public. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between government entities and pharmaceutical companies to address the availability of essential medicines in healthcare facilities.
