In Kathmandu, a recent order has been issued to put former mayor Dhruv Kumar Shivakoti in custody on charges of sexually abusing a minor. Shivakoti, who is also a member of the Communist Party of Nepal, has been directed by a single bench of Judge Navin Kumar Joshi of the Jhapa District Court to be detained pending trial for the alleged abuse of a 16-year-old domestic worker. The victim’s family had publicly stated that Shivakoti had been continuously sexually assaulting the girl for the past three years before his arrest on the 24th of Mansir.
