Jhapa: The provision of free hemodialysis services by the Nepali government has significantly benefited many patients suffering from kidney disease in Bhadrapur, Jhapa. At the Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital, located in Bhadrapur, approximately 60 patients receive free services daily, as confirmed by the hospital’s administration chief, Manoj Dahal. This initiative is being funded through the Poor Citizen Treatment Fund operated by the government, enabling kidney disease patients in Mirgaula to access dialysis services without any cost burden.
In cases where the kidneys are not functioning properly, medical professionals recommend hemodialysis for blood purification. The Om Sai Hospital in Jhapa is known for its high capacity and is the first and most capable hospital to provide this service. Presently, five additional health facilities have also started offering dialysis services in the region.
Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital operates 21 dialysis machines for hemodialysis services. It takes approximately four hours to treat one patient, and on average, 60 patients receive treatment in three shifts daily, as informed by Dahal. Currently, 167 patients are receiving regular dialysis services from the hospital. Even patients not covered by the government’s health insurance scheme can access treatment based on the municipality’s recommendation.
