An example of this can be seen in the Manang district of Nepal, where the glaciers are receding rapidly. Located in the Annapurna mountain range, the glaciers in this region are crucial water sources for the surrounding communities.
The village of Braka in the Manang district, situated near the Annapurna Himalayas, is witnessing the effects of this phenomenon firsthand. The glaciers that once covered the landscape are now visibly shrinking, revealing the rocky terrain underneath. The Annapurna II and III peaks, once blanketed in snow, are now exposed due to the melting ice.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the situation, stating that the rapid melting of glaciers in the Himalayas poses a significant threat to the local ecosystem and water supply. He emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the region.
