The Gandaki Province government has decided to suspend the implementation of the ‘ride-sharing’ regulations for a month. This decision came after discussions with Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey, where it was decided not to enforce the regulations for a month. The decision was communicated by the Physical Infrastructure Development and Transport Ministry Secretary Kamalkumar Adhikari and the coordinator of the discussion committee.
According to Adhikari, transport entrepreneurs have been urged to reinitiate discussions, and the process of implementing provisions related to ride-sharing as per the Ride-sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations, 2082, will be put on hold for a month.
Furthermore, a letter has been received by the provincial government from the Prime Minister’s Office today, calling for the resumption of public transportation programs to create a conducive environment for normalcy in daily life.
Previously, the Gandaki Province government had published the Ride-sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations – 2082 in the provincial gazette on Jestha 1. In response, business owners had submitted a memorandum to the government on Jestha 8, expressing their opposition. As their demands were not met, transport entrepreneurs have enforced a nationwide transportation shutdown from Jestha 16 in Gandaki Province to Jestha 19 across the country.
Despite reaching an agreement between the federal government and business owners on Monday night, the provincial government has yet to make a decision, leading to the continuation of the transportation shutdown. Today, business owners have halted public transportation services nationwide.
