Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) leader and former minister Sudhan Kirati has highlighted the urgent need for global community’s united efforts in mitigating the impacts of climate change as a shared challenge for the human community. On the occasion of the 18th Republic Day, the National News Committee (RASAS) organized a photo exhibition on the theme ‘Mountain Tourism: Our Pride, Our Identity’, where Kirati expressed concerns about the changes in nature due to climate change.
Kirati emphasized that addressing the challenges brought by climate change requires collaboration with the global community. He stressed that it is not only Nepal’s responsibility but a global concern. As a former tourism minister and lawmaker, Kirati pointed out the necessity to turn the crisis brought by climate change into an opportunity for tourism development.
Regarding the direct impact of climate change globally and its consequences on Nepal, Kirati urged for raising awareness about the changes witnessed in the past and present through visual representations. He emphasized the importance of understanding how climate change affects the Himalayan region, such as the formation of black mountains, the melting of glaciers, and the associated risks.
Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, shared his perspective on the matter. He commended Kirati’s initiative to raise awareness about the importance of Himalayan regions and the significance of showcasing images related to tourism as branding and cultural documentation.
During the Republic Day celebrations, RASAS Executive Chairman Dhrmendra Jha welcomed Kirati and acknowledged the significance of the exhibition in shedding light on the importance of Nepal’s Himalayas and tourism-related destinations. The exhibition, which started on Jestha 11, featured 96 images capturing various mountain ranges and major tourist destinations from eastern to western Nepal.
