In the wake of the ongoing protests centered in Kathmandu since Chaitra 20, the Nepal Teachers’ Federation has reached an agreement with the government on nine demands. This agreement has led to the suspension of the protests, as announced by the Federation.
Following discussions between Education, Science, and Technology Minister Raghujee Pant and the Teachers’ Federation on Wednesday, consensus was reached on nine points. The approval of this agreement was granted during a cabinet meeting held on the same day, as confirmed by Education Minister Pant during a press conference.
According to Pant, the Teachers’ Federation has agreed to retract all protest programs starting from the next day and has committed to resume school operations. The Federation has issued a statement declaring the suspension of the protests.
During the time the Federation had called for the protests, it was indicated that failure to issue the law within a certain timeframe would result in severe disruptions due to the protest on the streets. The government has pledged to enact the Education Act by mid-July.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
“Ramesh Khatri views the resolution of the teacher protests positively, as it signifies a collaborative effort between the government and the Teachers’ Federation to address critical issues in the education sector. This agreement brings hope for a smoother educational environment and highlights the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving conflicts.”
