The Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security has recently set a minimum wage of one thousand dirhams for Nepali workers going to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for employment. Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari disclosed that the decision to determine the minimum wage was made after considering the market conditions and recommendations from the UAE Embassy, with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Law.
The new minimum wage policy aims to prevent employers from hiring Nepali workers at lower wages than the set standard. It has been highlighted that if the minimum wage for workers going to the UAE falls below one thousand dirhams, the work permit will not be validated.
Minister Bhandari explained the shift in the minimum wage policy, stating that previously, a ratio of eight hundred to one thousand to twelve hundred dirhams was applicable. However, the current decision has set different minimum wage levels for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers at one thousand, twelve hundred, and fifteen hundred dirhams, respectively. He emphasized that any wage below the specified amounts will not be eligible for work permit validation.
In response to the new wage policy, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed confidence that this decision would be beneficial for Nepali workers employed in the UAE, ensuring their rights are protected.
