Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) member of parliament Rekha Sharma has emphasized the need for the public to actively participate in institutionalizing federal democratic republicanism. Speaking at a recent session of the House of Representatives, she highlighted the importance of the government working towards not only political system transformation but also improving the situation of the people.
On March 15 in Kathmandu, Sharma pointed out the behavior displayed by supporters of the former royal faction as completely illegal and unconstitutional. She reiterated the sacrifices made by the Nepali people for the federal democratic republic, emphasizing that even former communication ministers should not be exempt from engaging in activities contrary to the constitution and the law.
In light of recent incidents in Tikunne where government institutions were vandalized, two lives were lost, dozens of citizens were injured, and public property was damaged, Sharma criticized the government for claiming weakness in its efforts to exercise caution in its work. She stressed the necessity of everyone’s cooperation to further enrich democracy, provide citizens with services, and strengthen the system. Sharma urged the government to ensure the rule of law, control illegal activities, and enhance the constitution and governance.
Expressing solidarity with allied parties in the Socialist Morcha, Sharma declared their public demonstration in support of the federal democratic republic and the constitution. She maintained a clear stance in favor of good governance and warned the government to be vigilant in carrying out activities according to the same principles. Mentioning the obstruction in the Federal Parliament due to ongoing protests, she informed that it had been suspended temporarily.
Sharma accused the government of unjustly removing the executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority. She demanded that those responsible for any involvement in the incidents in Tikunne be brought to justice promptly.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
Khatri commended Sharma for her strong stance on upholding democracy and the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of political leaders like Sharma being vocal about government accountability and transparency to ensure a stable and lawful political environment.
