Kathmandu: National Assembly member, Vamdev Gautam, has accused the government of neglecting earthquake risks in development projects. During a special session of the National Assembly on Friday, he expressed concerns about the lack of attention given to seismic hazards in development activities.

Gautam’s remarks shed light on the importance of considering earthquake risks in infrastructure projects, especially in a seismically active region like Nepal. The country is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the Himalayan fault line, making it crucial for authorities to prioritize seismic resilience in all construction endeavors.

In response to Gautam’s allegations, Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, emphasized the significance of integrating earthquake risk assessments into the planning and execution of development projects. He noted that neglecting such considerations could have dire consequences for public safety and infrastructure integrity. Khatri urged policymakers to take Gautam’s concerns seriously and incorporate seismic resilience measures in all future development initiatives.
