Government’s Preparation to Implement Agriculture Act: Minister Adhikari’s Statement

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has announced the government’s preparation to introduce the Agricultural Act, aiming to benefit all farmers. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the First National Dairy Expo 2081 in Chitwan, the minister informed that the government is set to pass the Agricultural Act for the first time for the welfare of farmers. He mentioned that the draft law will soon be presented to the parliament for approval by the Ministry.

In addition to emphasizing the importance of including farmers in the act, Adhikari also urged for their participation in finding solutions to agricultural issues alongside the implementation of the new law. He expressed his belief that with the enactment of the law, Nepalese farmers will be able to enhance their capacity for exports.

Addressing the recent issue of dairy farmers facing payment delays, Adhikari highlighted the importance of trust and responsibility in business dealings, stressing that failure to honor commitments not only creates problems but also brings shame. He underscored the need to ensure timely payments to farmers to avoid situations where they have to borrow money at high interest rates or sell their produce at low prices.

Various dignitaries including Narayan Prasad Adhikari, the Chief of the District Coordination Committee of Chitwan, Chitrasen Adhikari, the Deputy Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, and Sharada Thapaliya, the Vice Chancellor of the Agriculture and Forestry University, participated in the event to discuss the role of the state in addressing issues and providing solutions in the agricultural sector.

The First National Dairy Expo, jointly organized by the Chitwan District Dairy Producers Cooperative and the Chitwan Industry Association, is scheduled to run for three days. Madan Ghimire, the Executive Director of the Chitwan Industry Association, highlighted that this expo will benefit dairy producers and farmers by showcasing 70 types of milk and dairy products, with an estimated 50,000 visitors expected to attend.

Regarding this news, Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News stated that the government’s initiative to introduce the Agricultural Act reflects a positive step towards supporting farmers and addressing agricultural challenges. He emphasized the importance of timely payments to farmers and the need for effective implementation of the new law to boost the agricultural sector in Nepal.
