Hyogo Prefecture Unveils 2025 Budget Focused on Safety, Youth Support – ¥4.5T

The Hyogo Prefecture recently unveiled its proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025, focusing on key areas such as safety, youth support, sports, and cultural promotion. The budget, totaling approximately 4.5 trillion yen, outlines initiatives aimed at creating a safe and secure environment for all residents, supporting youth development, fostering vibrant sports and arts culture, and strengthening the foundation of governance.

One of the central pillars of the budget is enhancing disaster preparedness and crisis management to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Measures include improving emergency medical services, disaster response capabilities, and enhancing support for vulnerable populations. In light of the 30th anniversary of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake, a “Creative Reconstruction Summit” is scheduled for September to showcase innovative approaches to disaster recovery.

In terms of youth support, efforts are being made to address issues affecting children and young people, such as school absenteeism and career guidance. The prefecture is expanding programs like the “Support Personnel for Non-Attending Students” and enhancing opportunities for interactions between university students and school children to broaden their perspectives on education and career choices.

Regarding education, the budget includes plans to gradually make public universities tuition-free for students from the second year onwards, with the aim of achieving full tuition waivers for all students by the fiscal year 2026. Additionally, initiatives to support startups, promote industries, and facilitate internships and local employment opportunities for young adults are being prioritized.
