The Secretary of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) and Member of Parliament, Gokarnaraj Bista, has emphasized the need for the Parliament to be centered on fulfilling the aspirations of citizens for development and prosperity. Speaking at today’s parliamentary meeting, he highlighted the importance of maintaining the dignity of the Parliament and stressed the responsibility of political parties and the government in addressing citizen dissatisfaction.
Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri expressed his opinion on the matter, stating that Bista’s call for a disciplined, polite, and orderly conduct in the Parliament reflects a commitment to uphold the principles of democracy and public trust. Khatri emphasized the significance of learning from past sessions and ensuring that the current session focuses on delivering results.
Regarding the current challenges faced by the economy and development in Nepal, Bista urged for attention to be drawn towards issues such as low economic growth, weak productivity, high trade deficits, increasing reliance on foreign employment, practical inefficiencies in the education system, and inadequate access to healthcare. He also provided recommendations for addressing these problems in the upcoming economic year’s policies, programs, and budget.
Bista highlighted that the rise in low capital expenditure and increasing current expenditures pose challenges to economic transformation, hindering the fulfillment of citizens’ aspirations for rapid development and prosperity. Moreover, he pointed out weaknesses in coordination among the three tiers of government, distortions in the cooperative sector, and deficiencies in the justice system as additional areas of concern.
Emphasizing the importance of the Parliament’s current budget session being focused on problem-solving, Bista underscored the need for rebuilding public trust in the Parliament. He also cautioned Members of Parliament against engaging in activities contrary to the constitution. He stressed the necessity for parliamentary practice to focus on resolving debates and conflicts within the parliamentary framework.
Furthermore, Bista suggested constitutional amendments through constitutional processes to further refine democracy and expressed concerns about the growing popularity of authoritarianism and anarchism. He noted the importance of not just speaking out but taking responsibility for actions, as observed in various countries, including Nepal. Bista highlighted the need for actions that align with citizens’ aspirations to truly achieve popular goals.
In conclusion, Bista raised crucial questions about the impact of the government’s longevity on public welfare and emphasized the importance of assessing the government’s effectiveness in serving the people and the nation.
