The construction of a cable car above the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu has been temporarily halted due to a mutual agreement between the government and protesting parties. This decision was reached after discussions between the protesting groups and government representatives on Monday and Tuesday. The specifics of the construction above the temple were extensively deliberated upon during a meeting held on Magh 27.
According to the agreement, individuals affected by the protest against the cable car construction will receive free and effective healthcare treatment provided by the government. Additionally, the government has also agreed to release individuals who were detained during the protests promptly. The protesting parties have also agreed to temporarily halt uncertain transportation services to restore normalcy in the area.
In another development related to cable car projects, various groups, including the Mukkumlung Conservation Struggle Committee and ethnic organizations like Kirat Yakthung Chumlung, Kirat Dharma, Limbu Thar Gath, have raised objections against the construction of a cable car in Mukkumlung, Taplejung. They have initiated protests against the project.
Furthermore, the agreement reached includes six key points:
1. Halting the construction work above the Pashupatinath Temple for further detailed discussions in upcoming meetings.
2. Providing free and effective healthcare to individuals affected by the protests in accordance with the government’s announcement.
3. Initiating legal action by investigating the incident that occurred on Magh 12, 2081.
4. Starting the immediate release process of individuals detained during the protests in Thunam during the protest process.
5. Temporarily halting uncertain transportation services by the Mukkumlung Conservation Committee.
6. Organizing a detailed discussion on contentious issues related to the objections raised by the Mukkumlung Conservation Committee and other stakeholders during the construction of the cable car project in another meeting scheduled for Magh 27.
As a representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri believes that the mutual agreement between the government and protesting parties to halt the cable car construction demonstrates a positive step towards addressing the concerns of the affected individuals. He emphasizes the importance of open dialogue and peaceful resolutions to such contentious issues to ensure the well-being and rights of all stakeholders involved.
