Former Prime Minister and President of the Nepal Samajwadi Party (New Force), Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, recently made statements regarding the Indian government’s stance on not supporting regime change in Nepal. Following his visit to India, where he engaged in discussions with communication workers at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Dr. Bhattarai expressed that despite concerns about instability in Nepal, the Indian government and key players have maintained a non-interference position.
Dr. Bhattarai noted that despite witnessing tensions rise in Nepal over potential regime change, he acknowledged that India and other major powers have refrained from intervening and accused opposing forces of spreading unnecessary rumors. He expressed contentment in realizing that India is not in favor of destabilizing the situation in Nepal.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented on the matter, stating, “The challenges faced by various movements in India at a citizen level are posing a threat to governance. However, the Indian government and key players have shown no inclination to support opposing forces that seek to destabilize our governance.”
Furthermore, Dr. Bhattarai highlighted the inability of the Nepal-India Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) to function effectively, suggesting that the Indian government has reached a point where new methods need to be adopted to address the ongoing issues between Nepal and India. He recommended that high-level talks between the Prime Ministers are necessary to resolve the existing problems and improve historical relations between the two countries.
“The historical significance of Nepal-India relations cannot be undermined, and we must strive to overcome the remaining challenges through dialogue and discussion. In the absence of EPG acceptance, alternative approaches must be sought. This necessitates engaging in talks at the Prime Ministerial level,” Dr. Bhattarai emphasized.
