In Kathmandu, the Indian Embassy celebrated the 23rd Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day with the participation of around 200 Nepali students who have received scholarships. The event was graced by the presence of Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, who awarded the Golden Jubilee Scholarships to the second batch of meritorious scholars.

The program, attended by prominent figures including Dr. Devraj Adhikari, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Nepal, and Vice-Chancellors from various universities, aimed to recognize academic excellence and foster educational ties between India and Nepal.

In his address, Ambassador Kwatra encouraged students to strive for excellence in their respective fields and highlighted the opportunities available through India’s startup ecosystem, incubation centers, and other collaborative initiatives.

According to the Indian Embassy, the Golden Jubilee Scholarship was established in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of economic cooperation between India and Nepal. Since then, the number of annual scholarship recipients has reached 200, benefitting Nepali students from all 77 districts. This year, 03 students with diverse capabilities were also selected for the scholarship.

The Indian government provides approximately 1,500 scholarships annually to Nepali students in various fields such as engineering, medicine, dentistry, management, commerce, nursing, Ayurveda, dance, theater, and fine arts. These scholarships enable students to pursue education in Indian educational institutions and support them in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in Nepal.

Over the years, nearly 40,000 Nepali students have benefitted from various scholarship initiatives by the Indian government. The educational collaboration and capacity-building efforts between India and Nepal are strengthening bilateral relations and fostering deeper friendships, as highlighted in the Embassy’s statement.

*Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed appreciation for the longstanding educational ties between India and Nepal, emphasizing the positive impact on student exchange and cooperation between the two nations.*
