A 27-year-old fugitive, Ashish Budhathoki, who had a red notice issued against him by Interpol, was arrested on Saturday at his home in Chiya Bar, Ward No. 2 of Kamalamai Municipality in Sindhuli district. He had been evading arrest in connection to a case of forced disappearance.

The Nepal Police, acting on information received from Interpol Kathmandu, apprehended him at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Budhathoki, who had been on the run, was the subject of an international search, with a red notice issued against him by the Interpol General Secretariat on February 14, 2025.

Local authorities in Sindhuli had requested the District Police Office to carry out necessary investigations and take action against him. The Nepal Police Headquarters had then forwarded the request to Interpol’s office in Kathmandu for coordination in apprehending Budhathoki.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
“It is crucial for law enforcement agencies to work together, as demonstrated in this case where Interpol’s cooperation led to the successful arrest of a wanted fugitive. The timely action taken by the Nepal Police highlights the importance of international collaboration in tackling cross-border crimes.”
