Tehran – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has asserted that uranium enrichment is Iran’s right and there will be no compromise on this issue. This statement comes in response to the United States’ calls to halt enrichment.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s uranium enrichment is for peaceful purposes and if anyone has concerns, they can be addressed through confidence-building measures, but stopping enrichment is not acceptable. This stance contradicts the special envoy of the United States, Steve Witkoff, who urged Iran to completely halt uranium enrichment. Previously, Witkoff had indicated a willingness to return to the 2015 nuclear deal, but now he has set new conditions for ending enrichment.

Recent high-level talks between Iran and the US in Oman were described as “positive” by both parties. Further discussions are scheduled to take place in Muscat this coming Saturday. Araghchi explained that the conflicting messages coming from the US are causing confusion, leading to a need for clarity.

As part of his preparations for talks, Araghchi will be traveling to Russia on Thursday. According to sources at the Russian Embassy in Tehran, discussions with the US will be a key focus of this trip. Araghchi plans to convey a message from Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, to Russian President Putin.

Iran has set clear “redlines” for the talks, including uranium enrichment, military capabilities, missile programs, and regional involvement. Revolutionary Guards have stated that the country’s defensive capabilities will not be up for negotiation.

In related news, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, is set to visit Iran on Wednesday as part of the agency’s monitoring of Iran’s nuclear activities. According to the latest report, Iran has enriched up to 274.8 kilograms of uranium, which is below the necessary 90% level required for nuclear weapons, despite exceeding the limit set in 2015.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News: “The ongoing discussions between Iran and the US regarding uranium enrichment are crucial for global security and stability. It is essential for both parties to find common ground to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.”
