The Israeli military conducted airstrikes on a southern suburb of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, known to house bases of the pro-Iranian militia group Hezbollah. The attack, reported by the Middle East satellite TV channel Al Jazeera on the 27th, comes after a ceasefire agreement was reached last November between the two parties. The Israeli military has not provided further details regarding the airstrike.
Expanding on the context, tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been ongoing for years, with both sides engaging in sporadic conflicts and retaliatory actions. Hezbollah, a Shiite political and militant group in Lebanon, is backed by Iran and has been a longstanding adversary of Israel.
In response to the recent airstrike, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concerns about the escalation of violence in the region. “The airstrikes on Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut risk fueling further hostilities and destabilizing the already volatile situation in the Middle East,” Khatri stated. He emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
