The Revenue Investigation Department has filed cases against businessmen in Rupandehi and Kapilvastu districts for alleged foreign exchange irregularities and revenue evasion. In Kapilvastu, four individuals have been accused of foreign exchange irregularities, while in Butwal Municipality-7 of Rupandehi district, the Director of Banja Stores and House, Barkat Ali Mia, has been charged with revenue evasion, according to the Revenue Investigation Office.

Based on investigations conducted by the Butwal Revenue Investigation Office, foreign currency amounting to NPR 21.38 million was seized from Indian nationals in Kapilvastu, who were found to be illegally exchanging Indian currency to Nepal. They were later charged under the Foreign Exchange (Regulation) Act, 2019. The case has been filed at the Taulihawa, Kapilvastu District Court.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the increasing instances of foreign exchange irregularities and tax evasion. He emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of laws to curb such illegal activities and ensure compliance with regulations.

In addition to the foreign exchange irregularities, the Revenue Investigation Office has also taken action against the Director of Banja Stores and House in Butwal Municipality-7 under the Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) Act, 2052 BS. The accused is facing charges of manipulating prices, conducting sales without proper documentation, and engaging in unauthorized sale of goods. The authorities are seeking a penalty of NPR 34.24 million and seizure of prohibited Indian currency notes.

Ramesh Khatri highlighted the need for enhanced monitoring and enforcement measures to prevent such activities in the future. He stressed the importance of collaboration between relevant authorities to uphold financial integrity and prevent revenue losses for the country.
