In a recent address at a public event in Bara, Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) and former Prime Minister known as ‘Prachanda’, emphasized the importance of respecting the constitution and democracy, stating that they should not be violated. He highlighted that the peace agreement is an integral part of the current constitution and any breach of it would be a violation of both the constitution and democracy.

Dahal’s speech also touched upon the issue of development of the constitution, expressing his willingness to contribute to its enhancement. He clarified that despite the Maoist Centre’s alignment with the Hulaki Highway project, there was no compromise on their emotional connection to it.

Regarding the ongoing construction process of the Nijgadh International Airport, Dahal pointed out that the progress has been limited to discussions on the matter. Despite his recent visit to Simara via Chitwan, he acknowledged that attention needs to be consistently given to the Terai-Madhesh awakening campaign, which had been previously suspended.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
Ramesh Khatri, speaking on behalf of Kansai Nepal News, views Dahal’s remarks as a significant reminder of the foundational principles of the constitution and democracy. He appreciates Dahal’s commitment to both development and upholding the peace agreement, emphasizing the need for continued attention to key national projects like the Nijgadh International Airport while not losing sight of crucial social movements like the Terai-Madhesh awakening campaign.
