In the fiscal year 2023, the usage of an oral abortion pill saw an increase in Japan with 1,440 cases reported. This pill had received approval for sales in April of the same year. Despite its recent introduction, it accounted for a small portion of the total abortion procedures conducted in the country.
The oral abortion pill offers a non-invasive option for terminating pregnancies and has been gradually gaining acceptance as an alternative to surgical procedures. Its availability provides individuals with more choices when considering their reproductive health options.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that the growing usage of the oral abortion pill in Japan reflects a shift towards more accessible and discreet methods of pregnancy termination. He noted that the pill’s approval and increasing utilization indicate a changing landscape in reproductive health services, offering women a more private and convenient option for ending pregnancies when needed.
