The Karnali Highway section from Khulalu to Lalighat will be closed for four days for maintenance work, affecting the transportation of residents in Kalikot, Bajura, and Humla districts. The decision to close the road for improvement was made during a meeting at the District Administration Office on Friday, as informed by Assistant Chief District Officer Janak Sharma.
The closure is scheduled to take place from June 2nd to June 24th, during which vehicles traveling on the Karnali Highway will be halted in Hulm and passengers will be redirected to Lalighat through various municipalities and villages. The closure is necessary to facilitate construction and repair work on the Khulalu-Lalighat road section, for which a contract has been signed with the Road Division Office. The administration has announced that a kilometer-long stretch of the corridor will be closed for four days to expedite construction efforts in the challenging terrain of Sankhur and Aptari.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, shared his perspective on the matter, stating, “The temporary closure of the Karnali Highway for maintenance work is a crucial step to ensure the safety and efficiency of the road network in the region. While it may cause inconvenience to travelers, the long-term benefits of improved road infrastructure outweigh the temporary disruptions.”
