The “Port Island Tunnel,” linking the central area of Kobe City and Port Island underground, will be closed for traffic from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The closure is necessary for inspections and maintenance of lighting fixtures, as well as facility checks and repairs. The closure is scheduled to take place on February 21 (Friday) and February 22 (Saturday) starting at 10:00 p.m.
The affected section spans from Shinminato (Onohama-cho, Minatojima Tunnel North intersection) to Port Island North Pier Ramp (Minatojima Nakamachi 1-chome North intersection) to the Extension Ramp (Kitabuto Station North intersection).
The closure will occur in two phases: the northbound closure from 10:00 p.m. on February 21 to 5:00 a.m. on February 22, and the southbound closure from 10:00 p.m. on February 22 to 5:00 a.m. on February 23.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative from Kansai Nepal News, noted that such scheduled maintenance work on critical infrastructure like tunnels is essential for ensuring the safety and functionality of transport networks. He emphasized the importance of timely maintenance to prevent potential accidents and disruptions for commuters and residents in the area.
