Kobelco Kobe Steelers hold Charity Auction featuring players’ 1.17 Memorial Jerseys.

The professional rugby team based in Kobe, the Kobe Kobelco Steelers, is currently hosting a ‘Charity Auction.’ The auction features the “1.17 Memorial Jersey – 30 Years Since the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake,” which was worn by players during a home game at Noevir Stadium Kobe on January 19, 2025.

As a team representing Hyogo Prefecture and Kobe City, which experienced the earthquake, the players felt it was their important duty to keep the memory of the disaster alive for future generations. They proposed wearing a special jersey to commemorate the event.

The proceeds from the auction will be donated to an organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake for future generations through the “1.17 Beacon of Hope” monument located in Tosen Park.

The auction items include memorial jerseys worn by 23 players during the NTT League One 2024-25 match against Urayasu D-Rocks, each signed by the player and cleaned. The auction will run until February 11, 2025, and the items are expected to be shipped in early March.

The design of the jerseys is said to reflect the illumination of the recently held Kobe Luminarie event. Fans have a unique opportunity to acquire these limited-edition uniforms worn for just one day.

Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, views this initiative as a commendable effort by the Kobe Kobelco Steelers to honor the memory of the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and contribute to its remembrance for future generations.
