The Koshi Province government has decided to celebrate this year as the ‘Koshi Tourism Year,’ aiming to boost tourism through promotional activities. The government had announced the policy and program for the current fiscal year to be celebrated as the Tourism Year and had allocated budget accordingly.

Under the leadership of Minister of Tourism, Forests, and Environment Sadanand Mandal, a Tourism Year Steering Committee has been formed to conduct various programs. Currently, two groups have been formed to organize promotional programs in various locations across the country.

As a member of the Tourism Year Steering Committee, Vasudev Baral informed that activities like ‘Familiarization Tour for Domestic and Foreign Journalists’ and ‘Road Show’ are being carried out to enhance the promotion of tourist destinations in the province. The committee, led by Rajan Dangal, is conducting informative and developmental programs in various locations across the country through Road Shows.

The ongoing tour program, which began on Friday, will continue until Monday, with 17 journalists from Nepal, Sikkim, Bihar, and West Bengal participating. They are exploring and promoting tourist destinations in the province.

According to Director Baral, the current tour has covered places like Ramdhuni Temple in Sunsari, Barahkshetra, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, various religious and natural heritage sites in Dharan, monasteries, Dhankuta’s Orange City, Laligurans Park in Itahari, among others.

Expressing his opinion, Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News stated, “The development of Orange City in Dhankuta, aimed at encouraging orange cultivation and promoting tourism, is a commendable initiative.”

The Tourism Year aims to promote and develop tourism destinations, with various programs planned to attract both domestic and international tourists to the province. Under the leadership of Dangal, Road Shows have been taking place across different locations in the country since June 11.

It was reported that a budget of NPR 100 million was allocated for Tourism, Forest, and Environment in the current fiscal year. The government has planned to allocate NPR 100 million for the upcoming fiscal year for Tourism Year-related policies and programs, with NPR 47.4 million earmarked for the construction of tourism infrastructure and identification of tourist sites. The remaining funds will be utilized for tourism-related activities carried out by the private sector.
