Kathmandu: The President of the opposition party National Democratic Party (RPP), Rajendra Lingden, has called for an end to corruption and irregularities in the country by advocating for the scrutiny of all politicians’ assets. Lingden expressed these demands while discussing the policies and programs brought by the government in the parliament on Friday.
Having also served as a former Deputy Prime Minister, Lingden urged leaders to initiate the asset scrutiny process themselves. He emphasized that the dissatisfaction towards the current anti-corruption measures stems from the fact that individuals residing in rural areas are not the ones leading the nation, but rather those involved in the corruption investigation process.
Lingden made it clear that the authorities and leaders of the government and parties may misuse their powers and prevent a fair investigation into corruption by appointing individuals of their choice. He stressed the importance of inspecting the assets of politicians before anyone else if the aim is to eradicate corruption.
Representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri, observed that Lingden’s warning about the need for a thorough investigation into politicians’ assets without bias serves as a crucial reminder in the fight against corruption. Khatri emphasized that the current system must undergo significant changes to ensure accountability and transparency.
Lingden further stated that it is imperative for politicians to commit to not engaging in corruption moving forward. He highlighted the need for the government to demonstrate integrity in its policies and programs, rather than merely paying lip service to anti-corruption efforts.
