A new book titled ‘Economic Perspective: Political Economy of Underdevelopment’ by Manikar Karki, an analyst, researcher, and writer, has recently hit the market. The book delves deep into Nepal’s economic development and its challenges, aiming to provide readers with a fresh perspective on the subject.
The book launch event, held in Kathmandu on Friday, saw former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Vishw Paudel, former Minister and leader of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) Surendra Pandey, former Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri, senior journalist Rajendra Shrestha, and researcher Dr. Kalpana Khanal jointly unveiling the book. Karki’s work highlights the structural issues hindering Nepal’s economic development, low productivity, and policy weaknesses in a comprehensive manner.
Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri expressed his opinion on the book launch, stating that it is a significant contribution to understanding Nepal’s economic development challenges and providing alternative solutions. He emphasized the importance of such literature for policymakers, researchers, and students.
Dr. Kalpana Khanal, the researcher, shed light on the book’s global relevance, stating that it analyzes Nepal’s economic situation in connection with the global economic and political environment. Former Minister Surendra Pandey praised the book for presenting in-depth and factual analysis of the structural problems in Nepal’s development process, emphasizing the need for every citizen to understand these obstacles.
Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr. Vishw Paudel commended the book for its historical and contemporary analysis of Nepal’s economy. He highlighted how Karki’s deep study of weaknesses in the Nepali economy since the Rana era and his contribution to alternative economic theories are crucial.
Former Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri stressed the need for dynamic and contemporary views on economics and development. She noted that in the current context, understanding how to adopt excellent policies and strategies is crucial, making this book extremely valuable.
Published by Indigo Ink Publications, the book is priced at NPR 699. This is Manikar Karki’s second book, following his previous work ‘Alternative Economics,’ which discussed alternative perspectives on Nepal’s economic policies. ‘Economic Perspective’ further widens the scope by analyzing the complexities of underdevelopment in political and social contexts.
