In Karnali Province, the presentation of the upcoming fiscal year’s budget has been left uncertain after the disruption caused by the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) during the Karnali Provincial Assembly meeting. The absence of the Maoist Centre, the main opposition party, has led to the postponement of the Provincial Assembly meeting, creating uncertainty regarding the budget presentation.

During the meeting scheduled for 3 p.m., it was halted due to opposition from the Maoist Centre. Krishna Bahadur Jeevan, the chief whip of the Maoist Centre parliamentary party, expressed opposition when the ruling party sought to present the budget in a unilateral manner.

Rajiv Vikram Shah, Minister of Economic Affairs and Planning in Karnali, was supposed to present the budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 for parliamentary approval. Despite the provincial government’s preparation to introduce a budget of an estimated NPR 32.99 billion, the disagreement between the ruling party and the opposition has led to the indefinite suspension of the Provincial Assembly meeting.

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, all preparations had been completed for the budget presentation. However, the Maoist Centre’s objection to the budget prepared without consultations has stalled the progress of the meeting.

As per the Chief Minister’s Office, the budget is in its final stages, but the presentation is pending political consensus. Efforts are being made to reach an agreement before proceeding with the budget presentation.

**Opinion by Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:**
“Disruptions in the budget process due to political disagreements can hinder the smooth functioning of governance and delay crucial decisions. It is essential for all parties involved to find common ground and prioritize the welfare of the province over political differences to ensure effective governance and economic progress.”
