The Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and former minister, Barshaman Pun, has emphasized that the Maoists are rightful stakeholders of the current system. This statement was made during the party’s third convention in Chandrakot Rural Municipality in Gulmi.
During the convention, Pun raised various questions regarding the current system, pointing out that the Maoist movement, which lasted for ten years, successfully established a federal democratic republican system in the country. He indicated that the Maoists should be entitled to take what they have been fighting for, considering the achievements made during the ten-year insurgency.
Pun stated, “The Maoists fought for over ten years to ensure the rights of the people. We must establish this agenda among the general public.” He also mentioned that due to the government led by former Prime Minister and party chairman Dahal opening files related to corruption, he had to step down from power.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The statement by Barshaman Pun highlights the ongoing struggle of the Maoist party to assert its place within the current political landscape. It underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring the rights of the people and its perspective on the need for further political reform in Nepal.”
