Market Analysis Speeds Up, Seven Firms Face Action

The Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection has intensified market monitoring in Kathmandu. As part of their monitoring activities, the department has directed seven firms to be present with their documentation for inspection.

In the course of the inspection, if violations of the Consumer Protection Act 2075 and Consumer Protection Rules 2076 are found, the department will provide necessary guidance and take action against the relevant businesses. Additionally, one firm has been instructed to halt sales and distribution of Spark Auto Care Pvt. Ltd. (Kathmandu Metropolitan City-8) with the necessary documentation present at the department.

Similarly, Gaurang Saris Pvt. Ltd. (Kathmandu-31), Siji Motors Pvt. Ltd. (Lalitpur Metropolitan City-2), Asian Biscuit and Confectionery Pvt. Ltd. (Biratnagar Metropolitan City-9), Season IT (Kathmandu-22), Urban Gears (Kathmandu-31), and Gabhino Fashion Wear (Kathmandu-31) have also been directed to be present at the department with their documentation.

The department aims to ensure consumer rights and protection, making the market clean and competitive through continuous monitoring and necessary actions. Kumar Dahal, the Director-General of the department, emphasized the importance of businesses complying with legal provisions, including enforcing Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on all goods to ensure transparency and fair markets.

He stated, “Enforcing MRP on all goods, regardless of their size or type, is mandatory to maintain a clean and transparent market. This will ensure a fair market from small items to large vehicles.”

Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, commented that such stringent monitoring and enforcement of regulations are essential to safeguard consumer interests and promote fair trading practices. He added that businesses must adhere to the regulations to create a level playing field for all stakeholders in the market.
