The recent meeting of the House of Representatives, which was adjourned without reaching a conclusion, has sparked interest and concern among political leaders in Nepal. The meeting, chaired by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, brought together the heads of four major political parties to discuss pressing issues facing the nation.
During the meeting held on Wednesday, both the ruling and opposition parties failed to find common ground, leaving Speaker Devraj Ghimire expressing disappointment with the lack of progress. Among the key figures present were Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, Minister of Law Bishnu Chaudhary, Congress President Shyam Kumar Ghimire, CPN-UML Chief Secretary Mahesh Bartaula, Maoist Chief Secretary Hitaraj Pandey, and RPP Chief Secretary Santosh Pariyar.
With the meeting ending inconclusively, parties such as the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Maoist, and RPP have begun separate discussions to address the impasse. Leaders like Congress Minister Gagan Thapa, Chief Secretary Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, CPN-UML Chief Secretary Mahesh Bartaula, Maoist Deputy Secretary Barshaman Pun, Chief Secretary Hitaraj Pandey, RPP Executive Member Viraj Bhakt Shrestha, and Chief Secretary Santosh Pariyar are actively engaging in these dialogues.
Regarding the ongoing visa scandal, the opposition parties have disrupted the parliamentary sessions since Jestha 13. Initially, the opposition demanded Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation and the formation of a probe committee. Recently, the RPP presented a five-point proposal to the Nepali Congress on Jestha 26. Despite the calls for Home Minister’s resignation and reluctance to form a probe committee by the ruling parties, namely CPN-UML and Congress, the deadlock persists.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concerns over the political deadlock, emphasizing the urgency for cooperation and dialogue to address the pressing issues facing the country.
