Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba and BIMSTEC Secretary-General Indramani Pandey held a diplomatic meeting today to discuss technical and economic cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region. The meeting took place in Bangkok, Thailand, where the sixth BIMSTEC Summit is being held.
During the meeting, Minister Rana emphasized Nepal’s acceptance of BIMSTEC’s key role in regional peace, unity, and collective prosperity. He reiterated Nepal’s commitment to BIMSTEC’s principles and objectives for the overall development of the region. Minister Rana also expressed optimism about presenting effective collaborative solutions at the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit to address the region’s pressing issues.
In his remarks, Minister Rana highlighted various challenges in the BIMSTEC region such as climate change, natural disasters, energy crisis, poverty, illicit trafficking of humans, and terrorism. He suggested that BIMSTEC should enhance its cooperative model to effectively tackle these issues and move forward positively.
Representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri, stated that such diplomatic engagements are crucial for fostering regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges effectively. He emphasized the importance of countries like Nepal actively participating in forums like BIMSTEC to contribute to the collective growth and stability of the region.
