Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli met with the Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal, Suwapong Sirisumrung, on Tuesday to discuss diplomatic relations between the two countries. This meeting marked the first official visit of Prime Minister Oli to Thailand ahead of his scheduled participation in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit and an official visit to Thailand in late March.

The BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled to take place on March 22, aims to enhance regional technological and economic cooperation in the Bay of Bengal region. Prime Minister Oli is set to lead a delegation of representatives during his visit to Bangkok on March 19.

In attendance at the meeting were Prime Minister Oli’s chief advisor, Vishnu Prasad Rimal, along with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions likely touched upon strengthening bilateral ties and potential areas of collaboration between Nepal and Thailand.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News:
“The meeting between Prime Minister Oli and the Thai Ambassador underscores the importance of fostering diplomatic relationships between Nepal and Thailand. As Nepal looks to enhance regional cooperation and strengthen economic ties, engagements like these play a crucial role in promoting mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations.”
