KATHMANDU: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Winston Peters, recently paid a diplomatic visit to the Shital Niwas, the official residence of the President of Nepal, Ramchandra Poudel. During the meeting, President Poudel expressed his aspiration for Nepal to become a prosperous country with a medium income status by the year 2030. He emphasized the importance of promoting trade, investment, and development cooperation to achieve this goal.
Furthermore, President Poudel highlighted the challenges both Nepal and New Zealand face due to climate change, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts in the Himalayan region to protect livelihoods. He also mentioned that Nepali tourists have recognized Nepal as an attractive tourist destination, which could contribute significantly to the country’s tourism sector.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Peters commended Nepal for its contribution to peacebuilding efforts under the United Nations, acknowledging the vital role of small countries in international relations. He expressed happiness at the friendly and scenic nature of Nepal, stating that New Zealand has increased scholarships for Nepali students to strengthen educational ties and promote development.
Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, appreciates the positive diplomatic relations between Nepal and New Zealand and commends the efforts to enhance cooperation in various sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries.
