Mexico’s President Threatens Google with Lawsuit Over “Gulf of America” Label

Mexico’s President, Shanebaum, has issued a warning to Google on the 17th regarding the labeling of the Gulf of Mexico as the “American Gulf” on Google Maps. He expressed his intention to take legal action against the company if they persist with this change in labeling.

This issue arose last week, following Google’s alteration of the Gulf of Mexico’s name to the “American Gulf.” The decision has stirred controversy and drawn criticism from various parties, including the Mexican government. The naming of geographic features holds significance in terms of national identity and territorial integrity, making this a sensitive matter for Mexico.

In response to the situation, Ramesh Khatri, the representative of Kansai Nepal News, highlighted the importance of respecting international conventions and acknowledging the sovereignty of nations in map labeling. He emphasized the need for companies like Google to be culturally sensitive and accurate in their representations, especially when it comes to geographical locations with historical and political significance. Khatri stressed the significance of upholding diplomatic relations and avoiding actions that could potentially strain international ties.
