In Kathmandu, Nepal, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology and government spokesperson, Prithvi Subba Gurung, delivered a speech filled with fervor and provocative expressions aimed at teasing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Minister Gurung expressed concerns about citizens not getting their work done without resorting to bribery. Addressing a gathering of tourism cooperatives, he highlighted the astonishment that arises when the common people are required to give bribes despite the Prime Minister’s statements that he doesn’t indulge in bribery and doesn’t allow others to do so either.
Furthermore, Minister Gurung emphasized the pain felt by citizens who easily get into government services without resorting to bribery. He pointed out that the public is fully aware of the corruption and bribery prevalent in the country, which the Prime Minister seems oblivious to. Minister Gurung stressed the importance of understanding the suffering caused by bribery and how difficult it is for ordinary people to meet the Prime Minister, let alone present their grievances to him.
During a visit by the Prime Minister to a district, Minister Gurung highlighted the challenges faced by citizens who are unable to voice their issues and grievances as they are often surrounded by security personnel. Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung recalled a past incident where he had criticized the then Chief of Nepal Police, Jibro Thutnu, resulting in the Prime Minister calling for the forgiveness of senior police officials, including the Chief of Police, Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, and Samu Gurung, amidst opposition from the ruling Congress party leaders. The incident created a stir and drew attention to the power dynamics within the government and law enforcement agencies.
