The Ministry of Health and Population is gearing up to implement a system where all health-related information of citizens will be readily available. Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel has decided to implement an integrated electronic health system to bring all medical information onto one platform. This initiative aims to create a ‘Unique Health ID’ for individuals, making it easier to access all health details in one place.
Additionally, on Wednesday, Minister Poudel decided to form a recommendation committee under the leadership of Dr. Saroj Sharma, Chief of Quality Measurement and Regulation Branch of the Ministry. The committee includes representatives from the Policy and Planning Division, the Legal and Decision-Making Division, and the Registration Department of the Ministry.
Furthermore, Information Technology Consultant Shashank Shrestha is a member of the committee, which also includes representatives from the Health Insurance Board, the World Health Organization, and the Federation of Nepalese Industries. The committee will be chaired by Ramesh Raj Suvedi, Director of Information Technology at the Ministry. They have been tasked with studying the method, process, and algorithms for creating a health identification number and submitting proposals for its implementation.
According to the National Identification Card, Health Insurance System, and certificates issued by the government, necessary research will be conducted. After receiving a detailed report with suggestions from the committee, the Ministry spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, stated that further procedures will be carried out.
This development is expected to streamline the collection of an individual’s health-related information and provide support for programs and plans based on citizens’ health statistics. Members of the committee, including Shrestha, have indicated that the implementation of the existing electronic medical record system and the introduction of a new system for providing convenient healthcare services through electronic means could be beneficial.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, views this initiative positively, highlighting the potential benefits for citizens in accessing healthcare services more efficiently and the improved management of health information through the integrated electronic system.
