Minister Sharma Rejects Bill Limiting Freedom of Expression: Refusal to Accept

In Kathmandu, the Nepali Congress’s General Secretary, Vishwaprakash Sharma, has expressed his disapproval of a proposed bill by the government that he believes restricts freedom of expression. Through social media on Wednesday, Sharma publicly stated that the government’s bill related to the operation, use, and regulation of social media in the federal parliament is unacceptable.

Sharma emphasized that the proposed subjects in the current bill brought by the government are not being acknowledged and urged for amendments to be made to the bill. He highlighted the need for serious deliberation in parliament on the bill’s topics before it is passed. Sharma’s view is that when a spokesperson changes to become a minister, the perspective changes as well. He believes that the country is on the wrong path and stresses the importance of dialogue between power-opposition, other parties, stakeholders, and citizens to establish boundaries in social media. He firmly states that the bill restricting freedom of expression is simply unacceptable.

Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News offers a perspective on this issue. He mentions that Sharma’s stance reflects a growing concern over the potential impact of the bill on freedom of expression and the need for open dialogue among stakeholders. Khatri believes that Sharma’s call for amendments to the bill is crucial in ensuring that the legislation respects the fundamental rights of citizens while maintaining social media regulations.
