In Kathmandu, an incident of physical altercation between police officers in Nagdhunga has led to the removal of two officers from their responsibilities. A video circulating on social media captured both officers being summoned to the main office for investigation, initiating a scrutiny process by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari.
According to Senior Inspector and Spokesperson Shekhar Khanal of the office, the video showed a Traffic Inspector physically assaulting a police constable. Following the public outrage after the video went viral on Wednesday afternoon, both officers have been relieved of their current duties pending further investigation.
The incident, once made public through the video, has raised serious questions within the police organization regarding discipline and conduct. After a detailed investigation of the incident, the police have stated that further disciplinary actions will be taken.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the incident, emphasizing the importance of upholding professionalism and ethical behavior within the police force to maintain public trust and confidence.
