The chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center) and former Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has expressed the need for a constitutional amendment in line with the people’s aspirations. Speaking at the inauguration of the Kirat and Limbuwan National Liberation Front’s Nepal National Conference in Sunsari on Saturday, he emphasized the importance of revising the constitution rather than completely changing it.
Prachanda highlighted that the constitution needs to be amended in accordance with the desires and necessities of the people. He stated that since the formation of the constitution to the establishment of a federal structure, the Maoist role has been pivotal in determining a decisive turn towards ending class and ethnic oppression.
Representative Ramesh Khatri of Kansai Nepal News expressed his opinion on this matter, stating, “Our party has played a crucial role in issues related to inclusivity, representation, and equality from the past till now. Any weaknesses should be addressed through amendments to move forward. It is necessary for us to continue playing a consistent role in transforming it into a peaceful political mainstream by institutionalizing it, rather than just struggling against class, ethnic, gender, and regional divisions till the end.”
Former Prime Minister Dahal emphasized the importance of protecting the constitution, strengthening democracy, and addressing issues in the agricultural sector where people are suffering, in order to move forward with the resolve to find solutions for economic development and prosperity.
