Nepal recorded a solid victory against the Netherlands in their second match of the ICC World Cup League 2 triangular series in Scotland. The match was held at the Forthill Cricket Ground in Dundee, Scotland, where the Netherlands set a target of 226 runs for Nepal. Despite losing five wickets, Nepal successfully chased the target in 47.1 overs, securing their second consecutive win in the series.
Aarif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee played outstanding innings for Nepal, with Aarif scoring 78 runs before getting out, and Dipendra contributing 38 runs. Kushal Bhurtel scored 25, Asif Sheikh made 29, Bhim Sarki scored 11, and captain Rohit Paudel scored 23 runs before being dismissed. Netherlands’ Michael Leask took 2 wickets, while Vivian Kingma and Paul van Meekeren each took 1 wicket.
Nepal’s bowlers also delivered a commendable performance, with Sompal Kami taking three wickets, and Karan KC, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi each claiming two wickets.
Representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri expressed his opinion on the match, stating that Nepal’s performance was commendable, especially with the strong contributions from Aarif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee. He highlighted the team’s resilience in chasing down the target set by the Netherlands.
The ongoing series includes Scotland, Nepal, and the Netherlands competing against each other. With this victory, Nepal has accumulated 10 points from 14 matches in the league. The top four teams from the ICC World Cup League 2 will qualify for the World Cup. Nepal is scheduled to play against Scotland on June 8 and the Netherlands on June 10 in upcoming matches to continue their campaign in the series.
