The Kathmandu district branch of the Nepal Journalists Association has publicly released its three-year action plan. The committee meeting held on Falgun 25 decided to make the membership verification and other action plans public. According to the statement issued by branch secretary Ramesh Kumar Bohora, the branch will seek approval from the Information Department for the introduction letter of the journalist association in their action plan.

The three-year action plan includes various objectives such as safeguarding small investments and promoting self-employment media, protecting press freedom and the rights of laboring journalists, and advancing towards the main goals without interruption. Additionally, the branch will voice concerns about the Media Council Bill passed by the National Assembly and the Social Media Regulation Bill, requesting immediate withdrawal if they threaten press freedom and constitutional rights.

Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, views this initiative as a positive step towards enhancing the welfare and rights of journalists in Nepal. He appreciates the efforts of the Kathmandu district branch in promoting media ethics and advocating for journalists’ well-being.

The action plan also includes conducting training sessions and workshops for branch members to enhance their capabilities, coordinating with local, provincial, and federal governments for mutual cooperation and progress, and initiating dialogues and discussions with journalists and various media organizations in the Kathmandu district through the “Media Discourse” campaign.

Furthermore, the branch aims to secure approval from the Information and Broadcasting Department to grant access to government offices, including Singha Durbar, based on the introduction letter of the Nepal Journalists Association. They also plan to prioritize social security for journalists and advocate for free medical treatment for journalists in government hospitals.

In conclusion, the Kathmandu district branch of the Nepal Journalists Association is making commendable efforts to uplift the journalism sector and ensure the well-being of journalists. Ramesh Khatri appreciates their dedication to promoting press freedom, supporting journalists’ rights, and fostering a conducive environment for media professionals in Nepal.
