A devastating landslide in Rasuwa, Nepal prompted a rescue mission by a Nepali Army helicopter that landed on Chinese territory. The landslide, which occurred near the Nepal-China Kerung border, caused widespread damage on Tuesday morning. According to the district administration office in Rasuwa, as of evening, 20 people were missing and 55 had been rescued.
The Nepali Army helicopter ventured into Chinese territory for the rescue mission. Assistant spokesperson of the Nepali Army, Rathee Rajaram Basnet, explained that the helicopter had to cross into Chinese territory as people were also stranded there. However, due to technical issues, the helicopter was halted on Chinese soil.
Presently, the helicopter has not been able to return to Nepal and remains grounded in Chinese territory. Basnet mentioned, “Once the technical issues are resolved, the helicopter will return after dropping off the rescued individuals. The maintenance work will be carried out before it returns.”
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his concern over the situation, stating, “The collaboration between Nepal and China during such natural disasters is commendable. However, it is crucial to ensure smooth communication and coordination to avoid any delays in rescue operations in the future.”
