Nepal’s Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has urged the Nepali community residing in China to invest in Nepal’s energy sector. Minister Khadka, who was on an official visit to China, made this appeal while attending an overview of a trade fair held in Beijing on Sunday. He emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring the security of investments made in the energy sector in Nepal, as it aims to attract more investments in this field.
Highlighting Nepal’s vast potential in hydropower resources, Minister Khadka expressed optimism that the country can achieve economic prosperity through the energy sector. He emphasized the importance of building an investment-friendly environment in Nepal to foster economic growth and encouraged all stakeholders to work together for the development of the nation.
The government has set a target to generate 28,500 megawatts of hydroelectric power by 2035, with plans to export more than 15,000 megawatts of electricity to neighboring countries like India. Minister Khadka also mentioned that Nepal has been selling 40 megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh and aims to increase this amount in the coming years.
During parliamentary discussions, Minister Khadka expressed the government’s commitment to swiftly pass the Hydropower and Electricity Bill to create a conducive environment for investments and promote a friendly investment climate. He also cited the Energy Development Strategy 2081 as a roadmap for the country’s development, outlining clear policies and action plans.
In a meeting with the Nepali community in China, Minister Khadka recalled past experiences and assured them that the government prioritizes investment security, aiming to enhance economic growth in the long run through sustained investment in Nepal’s energy sector.
Representative of Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri, commended Minister Khadka’s proactive approach towards attracting investments in Nepal’s energy sector. He believes that fostering a conducive environment for investments is crucial for Nepal’s economic development and appreciates the government’s efforts to prioritize energy sector investments for long-term growth.
