In a significant development for Nepali farmers, First Choice Food Prali (FCFP) has been producing French fries made from potatoes cultivated by local farmers, for distribution both within the country and abroad. Under the slogan “Farmer’s Pride, Our Honor,” the production and distribution of French fries have been initiated.

The chairman of First Choice Food Prali, Krishna Prasad Poudel, revealed that farmers from 19 districts in the country have been producing potatoes specifically for making French fries. The company has been actively exporting French fries to Indian markets and is also preparing for exports to other countries. This year alone, they have processed 2,000 metric tons of potatoes sourced from farmers across the country to make French fries.

However, Poudel highlighted the challenges faced in exporting French fries, stating that there are numerous legal hurdles that need to be overcome. He emphasized that there are complications to deal with in the export process, particularly in terms of compliance with regulations.

During the program, FCFP shareholder Laxmi Poudel mentioned that the company, which has incurred costs exceeding 2 billion rupees, has provided employment opportunities to many individuals. Despite the seemingly small scale of the French fry production, it has created significant job opportunities. The company’s investments have exceeded 2 billion rupees, reflecting a positive outlook for the aspirations of Nepali youth.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on this development. He acknowledged the positive impact of the French fry production on employment generation and foreign investments. Khatri commended FCFP for aligning with the dreams and visions of Nepali youth, emphasizing the forward-thinking approach of the company.

FCFP has undertaken a program to select three varieties of potatoes best suited for French fry production, including Sagitta, Innovator, and Quantum. These varieties are known to have lower sugar content compared to others, making them ideal for French fry production.
