A Nepali student, Kamal Adhikari, who had been missing for over two months in London, has finally made contact with the Nepali Embassy. The 23-year-old student had been reported missing since February, and it was confirmed by Vipin Duwadi, the Deputy Head of Mission at the Nepali Embassy in London that Adhikari is safe and well.

According to Duwadi, Adhikari had taken shelter in a homeless shelter in East London and had been in touch with the Embassy. He also mentioned that Adhikari has informed his family in Nepal about his situation and they are preparing for his return to Nepal upon his contact. Adhikari himself has expressed his desire to return to Nepal, and the Embassy has confirmed that his physical and mental health is stable and that his passport is in the possession of the UK Home Office.

Adhikari, who was studying at the University of Creative Arts in London, was expelled from his accommodation, leading to him being on the streets. After losing contact even from London, his family had requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene and locate him.

Upon receiving information about Adhikari’s whereabouts, the Nepali Embassy in London immediately informed the London Metropolitan Police to assist in the search. Adhikari, hailing from Hanspur-6 in Dhanusha, had arrived in the UK in 2022 for his studies.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, views this development as a concerning situation highlighting the challenges faced by Nepali students studying abroad. He emphasizes the importance of timely communication and support systems for students living away from home to prevent such incidents in the future.
